Saturday, Feb. 27, 2010 – Tsunami Warning All-Clear given at: 1:42pm

"Whew!" is the Star Bulletin's front page headline Sunday Morning as Hawaii averted a Tsunami. Below are a few photographs taken, the day of the Tsunami Warning, in Waikiki.

9:23AM – Newly and recently opened Yogurtland, in Waikiki, closed and averted disaster.

9:24AM – 24Hour Fitness, in Waikiki, closed although a few still
continued their active routine (running, biking, etc.) around town.

9:25AM – McDonalds, in Waikiki... typically open 24 hours, closed.

9:32AM – No Surfboards... No Beach Boy Stand... which normally are seen here. Watched the
beach boys working hard transporting their surfboards and equipment out in pick up trucks.

9:33AM – One floating tourist takes a last dip in the pond before being told to leave.
 

9:39AM – Waikiki Beach Hotel was one of the few places to get
breakfast (and coffee) during the Tsunami Warning.

9:49AM – Boats evacuated by going towards deeper water and line the horizon. What a sight!

10:01AM – Cops still continue to warn the public to seek higher ground.
Some patrol in ATVs on the beach and sidewalks.

10:31AM – No people in sight at the Royal Hawaiian as 2 lifeguards do their final patrol and issue warnings.

10:31AM – The Kaphulu Groin, a pedestrian walkway extending from Waikiki Beach to the ocean, is desolate.

10:32AM – Another view of the Kaphulu Groin, plus a peek of the reef sticking out,
(similar to what you'd see during a low tide although the low tide prediction for 2/27 were for 9:55am and 9:15pm)

10:33AM – Cops patrolling in groups of 2-4 vehicles every 2 blocks apart warning the
public to get to higher ground (3 floors up or higher) or seek alternative shelter at designated areas.

10:37AM – Spectators watching the "slow-motion disaster" (described by Perry & Price of KSSK Radio) for hours.

10:38AM to 10:40AM – More serious reinforcements

11:20AM – Waikiki Beach, on a beautiful day and noone there. The pond almost empty.
Very eerie! Evacuation teams did a great job!

11:34AM – By this time, streets were a ghost town.

1:16PM – Tsunami surges continue to go high and low revealing reef. People slowly
getting back to their routine (although the all-clear wasn't given yet... not until 1:42pm)
